Step One (3 Day Truancy Referral):
After the student has had 3 or more unexcused absences on 3 different days, a referral is made to Wright County Human Services. The student and parent are invited to attend the Truancy Mediation Meeting to gain knowledge of the truancy laws and the effects that truancy has on a student’s future.
Step Two (5 Day Truancy Referral):
If the student continues to be truant, (5 unexcused absences) the family is referred to the Wright County Student Attendance Review Board (SARB). The family meets with representatives from the school, Wright County Human Services to develop a contract addressing the issues that are preventing the student from attending school. When a student reaches this point their attendance is monitored by Wright County.
Step Three (7+ Unexcused Absences):
The third step is the filing of the truancy petition. This step will be taken if steps one and two have failed.
