Step One: School attempts to resolve truancy issue in accordance with state statute.
Step Two: School refers student to Lowell via fax at five days or more of truancy. Lowell will set up a meeting between school and family to create a truancy contract.
Step Three: If the truancy contract does not work, Lowell and the school will request that CHIPS be filed with the county attorney. Families are given the chance to have a diversion program or go directly to court. From here, social services tracks student and refers to (or back to) court as necessary.
