Step One: School informs family at seven days unexcused absences. Send copy of letter/attendance record to Family Services.
Step Two: School informs Family Services if the student continues to be truant. Family Services sends letter to parents to set up a diversion meeting. Family has 3 days to respond to the letter or student sent to court. If diversion works, the student is screened out.
Step Three: School informs Family Services if the student continues to be truant. County Attorney gets report from Family Services that diversion is not working. Student and family required to attend court. School official may not be required to be in court.
