Step One: School should attempt to resolve truancy issues as per state statute.
Step Two: At 7 days cumulative truancy, school should fax county intake with attendance and student contact information as well as all communications with family. Social worker will hold a meeting with family and school (those at a distance can attend by phone).
Step Three: If attendance does not improve after two weeks have passed after the meeting, the county files a CHIPS petition and family/student will go to court. School should continue to report absences to county so that follow-up can occure.
