Notes: Students must have 10 truant days before a school notifies the county. This county will take petitions on students aged 16 and older, but schools should use their discretion as student approach 18 years old. This county does not accept petitions after April 30 of each year.
Step One: School attempts to resolve truancy issues per statute without county intervention.
Step Two: School official completes petition and returns it to the County Attorney’s Office along with documentation of absences and attempted interventions.
Note: The documentation of absences must include actual dates of absences.
Step Three: County will contact school of how the county plans to proceed and will continue to include the school with any further updates.
