Overview
Although several statutes give guidance to individual counties, each county governs its own procedures to enforce truancy and to provide supports for students and families. To complicate things, online schools came into existence after the most recent passing of these statutes.
In the past, the ever-changing number of online schools and the 87 counties have struggled with creating partnerships in this vast world now known as online truancy.
How can students be truant if they are attending online schools? Should counties enforce truancy law if students are attending online schools?
How can online schools write attendance policies that can support the county interventions and enforcement of truancy? Should online schools enforce truancy and attendance in the same way that their traditional counterparts do?
This website seeks to answer those questions, pursue collaboration, and in the end provide a venue for all parties to support student success while enforcing the law.
Please note: While we were in the process of putting this website together, we were asked to include non-online charter and district school information here. Any school in MN that would like to be represent here as a way to expand collaboration is welcome to have their information posted here.
